Artist's Comments

This is a piece that I did in Photoshop. I began from a drawing that I did in my sketchbook and from there scanned the image in. Most of this was done using Nagel brushes. I believe it was series 10 number 132 with dual brush 144 at 70% opacity. I wanted to show the Emerald City as the end of their journey out of the forest, but another big part of the story to make it through to the end. I really enjoyed this one.

Trippy! As it should be. This reminds me of the style of artists doing sci-fi and fantasy in the 70s and 80s. Cool!

Thanks everyone, this was my first piece accepted into the Society of Illustrators Student competition years ago. Sadly, it was the year they published the student portion separate from the main book....bummer for me. But you should check out my buddy Brandon Dorman. You know- Fablehaven? Yeah, Brandon was in that publication with me...and much better too. Kudos to Brandon. He is a great guy. Thanks everyone.

For clarification...Brandon and I had classes together in college. He is the illustrator of the awesome Fablehaven fantasy Series that is sweeping the nation. I had the pleasure of knowing many great artists during college. Man, I miss college...OH wait, I'm going to the Academy of Art University for my masters degree...ha ha. Only online isn't the same kind of personal experience. The education is excellent, but how do you rub shoulders? In person is always more advantageous. Take care.
